In-Depth Job Description: Head of R&D
As the Head of R&D, you will be the cornerstone of our scientific and innovation efforts. You will be entrusted with end-to-end responsibility for the research and development portfolio.
Key Responsibilities:
- Strategic Leadership: Drive the end-to-end R&D strategy for APIs (Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients), Intermediates, and Key Starting Materials (KSMs).
- Process Development & Scale-Up: Lead laboratory-scale synthesis, process optimization, and successful technology transfer to pilot and commercial manufacturing plants.
- Analytical R&D: Oversee the analytical development team, ensuring robust method development, validation, and quality control protocols.
- Intellectual Property: Spearhead IP filings (patents), conduct freedom-to-operate analyses, and build a strong intellectual property portfolio for the company.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all R&D processes and documentation meet stringent regulatory standards for readiness in domestic and international markets (e.g., USFDA, EMA).
- Team Building & Mentorship: Attract, build, and mentor a high-performing R&D team of scientists and researchers. Foster a culture of innovation, accountability, and scientific excellence.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with the Manufacturing, Quality Assurance, and Business Development teams to align R&D goals with commercial objectives.
Who We Are Looking For (Qualifications & Experience)
The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker with a deep-rooted scientific background and proven leadership capabilities.
Essential Requirements:
- Educational Qualification: A Master’s or Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry (A Ph.D. is highly desired).
- Industry Experience: A minimum of 15 years of relevant experience in pharmaceutical R&D, specifically within API and Intermediate development.
- Leadership Experience: At least 5 years in a leadership or managerial role, demonstrating experience in building and guiding R&D teams.
- Technical Expertise: Proven hands-on expertise in:
- Process Chemistry and Process Optimization
- Scale-Up and Technology Transfer
- Analytical R&D (HPLC, GC, NMR, etc.)
- Intellectual Property (IP) Management and patent filing.
- Personal Skills: Excellent communication, strategic planning, and problem-solving skills. A results-oriented mindset with a focus on innovation and execution.
