Job Description: Gastro Surgery Coder
As a Gastro Surgery Coder at IKS Health, you will be responsible for the accurate and efficient coding of complex gastroenterology and surgical procedures. Your expertise will ensure compliance, maximize reimbursement, and maintain the highest standards of data integrity.
Key Responsibilities:
- Review and analyze patient medical records for gastroenterology and general surgery procedures.
- Assign accurate ICD-10-CM, CPT®, and HCPCS Level II codes for diagnoses and procedures.
- Ensure all coding is compliant with official guidelines, CMS rules, and payer-specific policies.
- Utilize your knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology, particularly for surgical cases.
- Resolve coding-related denials and discrepancies through thorough research and appeal processes.
- Collaborate with the clinical and revenue cycle teams to clarify documentation and ensure accuracy.
Desired Candidate Profile (Eligibility Criteria)
To be successful in this medical coding role, you should meet the following requirements:
- Experience: A minimum of 1 year of hands-on experience in Orthopedic Surgery coding is mandatory. Experience with gastro procedures is a significant plus.
- Certification: A professional coding certification is mandatory (CPC, CCS, COC, or CRC) from AAPC or AHIMA.
- Education: Any Life Science Graduate. This includes:
- BPT/MPT (Physiotherapy)
- B.Pharm/M.Pharm (Pharmacy)
- Nursing
- Nutrition & Dietetics
- B.Sc/M.Sc in: Zoology, Biology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Genetics, Biotechnology
- Skills: Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and proficiency in using coding software and EHR systems.
