Job Overview

Key Responsibilities – Inpatient Medical Coding
- Review inpatient medical records while strictly adhering to HIPAA & PHI guidelines
- Assign accurate ICD-10-CM (PDx & SDx) and ICD-10-PCS codes
- Perform DRG-based coding (MS-DRG / APR-DRG) with correct sequencing
- Assign POA indicators accurately
- Apply medical necessity rules, DRGs, APGs, and APRs for claims processing
- Follow AHA Coding Clinic guidelines and query physicians when required
- Monitor held accounts and coordinate with internal leaders
- Utilize tools like 3M, Optum, CAC, Meditech, and abstracting software
Required Qualifications & Skills
- 1–7+ years of experience in IP DRG medical coding
- Active certification (mandatory):
- CCS (AHIMA) or
- CIC (AAPC)
- Graduation in any discipline (Life Science preferred)
- Strong knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently and adapt to changing processes
