DoP Engages with Local Glove Manufacturers on Quality Concerns Amid Import Issues

The Department of Pharmaceuticals (DoP) in New Delhi has begun conversations with local rubber glove makers to address their concerns about the surge of low-quality items into the nation. Domestic companies have expressed concern that gloves from Thailand, Malaysia, and China are being dumped in India under various non-medical product categories.

In response, the DoP is considering issuing quality control orders in partnership with the Bureau of Indian Standards, and it has already solicited feedback from key stakeholders.

“The discussions are progressing well,” a source familiar with the situation told PharmaBharat. “Manufacturers have expressed their concerns about inferior gloves hitting the market. The DoP secretary has acknowledged our concerns, and we will continue to address this with other departments,” the person said.

The insider further stated that the administration is steadfast in maintaining product quality and is unwilling to compromise on this issue.

As the conversations continue, industry insiders believe that the government’s efforts will result in tighter enforcement of quality standards and a more level playing field for Indian producers. The DoP’s interaction with stakeholders, together with potential collaboration with the BIS, represents an important step toward resolving this vital issue.
