Job Description
As a Sr. Coding Specialist, you will be responsible for reviewing surgical records and accurately assigning ICD-10-CM and CPT codes for various diagnoses and surgical procedures. Precision in coding and sequencing is crucial, as it directly impacts reimbursement and the overall efficiency of healthcare operations. Your attention to detail will ensure compliance with regulatory standards and improve financial outcomes for healthcare providers.
Key Responsibilities
- Surgical Record Review: Thoroughly analyze surgical records to ensure accurate coding of diagnoses and procedures based on ICD-10-CM and CPT code guidelines.
- Detailed Coding: Ensure the coding appropriately reflects the detailed medical record documentation, maintaining high accuracy in every assignment.
- Audit Analysis: Analyze audit findings and provide comprehensive rebuttals to address any discrepancies in coding while collaborating with physicians to rectify incomplete or unclear documentation.
- Understanding Medical Necessity: Demonstrate a deep understanding of medical necessity and the intricacies of handling denials when processing charts and claims.
- Collaboration: Work closely with other healthcare professionals and coding staff to promote a culture of coding excellence and continuous improvement.
Required Qualifications
- Strong background and experience in surgical coding with a focus on ICD-10-CM and CPT coding.
- Comprehensive understanding of regulatory coding guidelines and the importance of accurate documentation.
- Excellent analytical skills to address audit findings effectively.
- Ability to communicate complex coding concepts clearly and cooperatively with medical staff.
- Certification as a CPC (Certified Professional Coder) or equivalent is preferred.
