The Indian Pharmacopoeia Commission (IPC) is an autonomous body under the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India. It is responsible for:

  • Setting drug standards through the Indian Pharmacopoeia (IP).
  • Publishing the National Formulary of India (NFI) for rational drug use.
  • Functioning as the National Coordination Centre (NCC) for:
    • Pharmacovigilance Programme of India (PvPI) – Drug safety monitoring.
    • Materiovigilance Programme of India (MvPI) – Medical device safety monitoring.

IPC plays a crucial role in ensuring the safety and efficacy of drugs and medical devices in India through research, training, and regulatory updates.


Internship Opportunity at NCC-MvPI, IPC

The Materiovigilance Programme of India (MvPI) under IPC is inviting applications for internship programs in drug and medical device safety monitoring. This is an excellent opportunity for students and professionals in pharmacy, medical, dental, engineering, nursing, and allied health sciences to gain hands-on experience in pharmacovigilance and materiovigilance.

Eligibility Criteria

Candidates who have passed or are in the final year/semester of the following courses can apply:

  • Pharmaceutical Sciences: B.Pharm/M.Pharm/Pharm.D
  • Medical Sciences: MBBS/MDS/PhD
  • Dental Sciences: BDS/MDS/c
  • Engineering: BE/ME/B.Tech/M.Sc/MS/PhD (Biomedical, Clinical, Medical Electronics, Instrumentation, etc.)
  • Nursing: ANM/GNM/B.Sc/M.Sc
  • Allied Health Sciences

Internship Duration

  • Short-Term: 3 months
  • Mid-Term: 6 months
  • Long-Term: 1 year

Key Responsibilities of an MvPI Intern

  1. Assist in Adverse Event Reporting: Improve the quality and quantity of adverse event reports related to medical devices.
  2. Hospital Visits: Engage with healthcare professionals in ICUs, operation theaters, and clinical departments.
  3. Awareness Programs: Conduct training sessions for healthcare workers under the guidance of coordinators.
  4. Data Confidentiality: Maintain strict confidentiality of research data and avoid conflicts of interest.
  5. Project Submission: Submit a final project report to NCC-MvPI for evaluation.
